# How to Migrate Froonze Loyalty Actions in Shopify Flow

We replaced the original Froonze Shopify Flow actions with two new ones: **Adjust loyalty points** and **Adjust store credit**. The old actions still work, and there is no date for removing them, but they are deprecated, so we recommend moving your workflows over ASAP. This takes a few minutes per workflow, and the rest of your workflow stays as it is.

|| For the full parameter reference of the new actions, see [Shopify Flow integration (loyalty)](/en/article/shopify-flow-integration-loyalty-1tdec54/).

## What changed

| Old (deprecated) | New |
| ---- | ---- |
| **Add loyalty points or store credit** | **Adjust loyalty points** or **Adjust store credit** |
| **Remove loyalty points or store credit** | **Adjust loyalty points** or **Adjust store credit** with a negative value |

The main differences:

* **You choose points or store credit in the action itself.** The old actions followed the reward type set on the Shopify Flow earning rule in your Froonze dashboard (Points or Store credit). Now the action you pick decides, and the earning rule only needs to stay enabled so the actions work.
* **One action adds and removes.** Use a positive value to add and a negative value to remove, so you no longer need separate Add and Remove actions.
* **Amounts accept variables and formulas.** The old field took a fixed number. The new ones accept Shopify variables and Liquid formulas.
* **The customer is detected automatically.** The old actions needed a Customer email. The new ones use the customer from your workflow trigger by default, and you can pick a different customer with a variable if you need to.
* **Store credit gains an expiry and a currency.** Adjust store credit has **Expires after (days)** (blank or 0 means it never expires) and **Currency** (a 3-letter code such as USD or EUR; blank uses your store's default currency, and it must be a currency enabled for your store).

## Field mapping

| Old field | New field |
| ---- | ---- |
| Customer email | **Customer** (filled in automatically from the trigger, no change needed in most workflows) |
| Points or store credit | **Points** (Adjust loyalty points) or **Store credit amount** (Adjust store credit) |
| Earning rule name (shown to the customer) | **Customer facing note** (required) |
| Internal note | **Internal note** |
| Reward type on the earning rule (Points / Store credit) | Which action you choose (the rule no longer decides) |

## Step 1: Find the workflows to update

1. In Shopify, go to **Apps ➜ Flow ➜ Workflows**.
2. Open each workflow that uses a Froonze action. Deprecated actions are labeled **\[DEPRECATED]**.

## Step 2: Check whether the workflow gives points or store credit

Open the Froonze dashboard, go to **Loyalty**, click **Program** in the top navigation menu, and choose **Earning rules** from the dropdown. You can also open the [Earning rules page](https://admin.shopify.com/apps/froonze-app/loyalty/earning_rules) directly. Find the **Shopify Flow** earning rule and open it.

The **Reward type** shows whether your old actions awarded **Points** or **Store credit**, which tells you which new action to use. Keep the rule enabled, since it is what makes the Flow actions work.

## Step 3: Replace an Add action

1. Open the workflow and note down the settings of the old action (customer, amount, earning rule name, internal note).
2. Find the step right before the old action. It can be the trigger, another action, or a branch of a condition (the **True** or **False** path that leads to the old action).
3. Click the **+** (add) button below that step and choose **Action**. The new action is connected to the previous step from the start.
4. Select **Froonze ➜ Adjust loyalty points** or **Froonze ➜ Adjust store credit**.
5. Fill in the new action (see below).
6. Delete the old action using the trash icon next to it.
7. Connect the new action to the next step: click and hold the **+** button below the new action, then drag the arrow onto the step that came after the old action.
8. Save the workflow and make sure it is **On**.

Fill in the new action like this:

* **Customer**: leave the default, which uses the customer from the workflow trigger. To target a different customer, use **Use a different customer** and add a variable.
* **Points** or **Store credit amount**: enter the same value as before.
* **Customer facing note**: use the text you had as the Earning rule name. This field is required for Adjust loyalty points.
* **Internal note**: copy it over.

The rest of your workflow stays the same. Only the old action is replaced.

Reconnect the workflow:

1. Click and hold the **+** button below the trigger, then drag the arrow that appears onto the new action.
2. Click and hold the **+** button below the new action, then drag the arrow onto the next step.
3. Save the workflow and make sure it is **On**.

The rest of your workflow stays the same. Only the old action is replaced.

## Step 4: Replace a Remove action

Same as Step 3, with one difference: **enter the amount as a negative value.** The old Remove action took a positive number and subtracted it. The new actions use a minus sign to remove, so `50` adds 50 and `-50` removes 50.

If the amount is calculated, put the minus in the formula, for example, to remove 5% of an order's subtotal: `{{ order.subtotalPrice | times: -0.05 }}`.

## Step 5 (optional): Use variables instead of fixed amounts

Now that amounts accept variables, you can calculate them from the order. For example, to award 30% of the order subtotal plus 5:

`{{ order.subtotalPriceSet.shopMoney.amount | times: 0.3 | plus: 5 }}`

The value must resolve to a number. If it can't, the action returns an error, and nothing is adjusted.

| For more on variables, see [Shopify's Flow variables](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/shopify-flow/getting-started/concepts/variables) guide and our [Shopify Flow integration](https://help.froonze.com/en/article/shopify-flow-integration-loyalty-1tdec54/) article.

## Step 6: Test the workflow

The **Test results** tab simulates the workflow and shows the results as if it had run. Shopify can also generate the test events for you, so you don't need a real one.

1. Open the new action and click the **Test results** tab.
2. Use the option to automatically generate events and simulate the workflow.
3. Check that the result shows the amount you expect, for example, the right number of points.

To test the real workflow end to end, trigger it with a test customer account. Do the thing that normally starts the workflow (for example, add the tag to a test customer), then check that customer's profile in **Froonze ➜ Customers** to confirm the points or store credit were adjusted and the note appears as expected.

Make sure the workflow is **On** when you are done.

## FAQ

**Do I have to migrate?**
Not right now. The old actions still work, and there is no removal date. We recommend migrating, so you get variables, formulas, and the new store credit options.

**What happens to the Shopify Flow earning rule in my dashboard?**
Keep it enabled. It switches the Froonze Flow actions on. Whether a workflow gives points or store credit is decided by the action you use, not by the rule.

**Can I edit the old action into the new one?**
No. Shopify Flow doesn't allow swapping an action. Add the new one from the step before the old action, delete the old one, and connect the new action to the next step.

**Need a hand?**
[Send us](mailto:support@froonze.com) your workflow and we'll help you migrate it, at no cost.
