# Reviews Product Grouping: Overview and Setup Guide

**Product grouping lets you share reviews between related products in Froonze Reviews.** When products belong to the same group, customers can see the combined review history across the products in that group.

This is especially useful when you sell products with different colors, sizes, versions, or listings but want shoppers to benefit from the same social proof. Instead of starting from zero with every product page, you can display existing reviews, ratings, photos, and videos across related products.

# How product grouping works

Froonze supports two types of product groups:

* **Static groups:** You manually choose which products belong to the group.
* **Automatic groups:** Froonze selects products automatically based on a rule.

Choose a **static group** when you need complete control over the products included. This is useful for grouping product variants, replacement products, updated versions, or products that do not share a common collection or tag.

# Before you start

Make sure that:

* The Reviews plugin is enabled in your Froonze account.
* The products you want to group already exist in your Shopify store.
* You have decided whether the group should be managed manually or automatically.

# Create a product group

1. In Shopify admin, open **Apps** and select **Froonze**.
2. Go to the **Reviews** side tab and open the **Advanced** dropdown.
3. Select the **Product groups** option.
4. Click **Add group** in the top-right corner.
5. Choose the type of group you want to create: **Static** or **Automatic**.

The next steps depend on the group type you choose.

## Create a static product group

A static group gives you full control over the products included in the group. Products are added manually, so the group only changes when you update it.

1. Click **Add group**.
2. Select **Static**.
3. Enter a name for the group.
4. Click **Create**.

After the group is created, you will be redirected to the group management page.

From there, you can:

* Add products to the group.
* Remove products from the group.
* Rename the group.
* Delete the group.

### Add products to a static group

1. Open the static group you want to manage.
2. Click **Add products**.
3. Select the products you want to include.
4. Confirm your selection.

The reviews for the products in the group can then be shared across the related product pages.

### Remove products from a static group

1. Open the relevant product group.
2. Find the product you want to remove.
3. Click **Remove** next to the product.
4. Confirm the change if prompted.

Removing a product from a group does not delete the product from Shopify. It only removes the product from that Froonze product group.

### Rename a static group

1. Open the group you want to rename.
2. Click **Rename**.
3. Enter the new group name.
4. Save your changes.

Use descriptive names that make the purpose of each group easy to understand, such as:

* Summer T-shirt variants
* Black running shoes
* Classic product and new version
* Travel mug collection

### Delete a static group

1. Open the group you want to delete.
2. Click **Delete group**.
3. Confirm the deletion.

Deleting a group does not delete the products or their reviews. It only removes the relationship between the products in that group.

## Create an automatic product group

Automatic groups select products based on a rule. This is useful when your products are organized consistently in Shopify, and you want Froonze to manage the group for you.

1. Click **Add group**.
2. Select **Automatic**.
3. Enter a name for the group.
4. Choose how Froonze should select products: **Product name**, **Collection**, or **Tag**.
5. Configure the rule for the selected option.
6. Save the group.

Froonze will use the rule you configure to determine which products belong to the group.

### Group products by product name

Use the **Product name** option when related products share a common word or phrase in their names.

For example, you could group products whose names contain:

* Classic T-shirt
* Insulated Bottle
* Travel Backpack

This option works best when your product naming convention is consistent.

### Group products by collection

Use the **Collection** option when all related products belong to the same Shopify collection.

For example, you could create a group based on collections such as:

* Summer collection
* Running shoes
* New arrivals
* Travel accessories

When you use a collection-based rule, products included in the selected collection are automatically considered for the group.

### Group products by tag

Use the **Tag** option when you manage product relationships with Shopify product tags.

For example, you could add the same tag to related products:

* `black-tshirt`
* `travel-mug`
* `summer-collection`

Froonze can then use that tag to automatically select the matching products.

This option is useful when products belong together but are not managed in the same Shopify collection or do not share a consistent product name.

### Examples for automatic grouping

Use the rule that best matches how your Shopify catalog is organized:

* **Product name:** If your products are named "Classic T-shirt - Black", "Classic T-shirt - White", and "Classic T-shirt - Blue", create a group based on the shared "Classic T-shirt" name pattern.
* **Collection:** If related products are all part of your Shopify collection called "Summer sandals", select that collection to group those products together.
* **Tag:** If you add the tag "shared-reviews" to every color variant of a product, choose that tag so Froonze automatically groups the tagged products.

These examples work best when your product names, collections, or tags are applied consistently. Before saving an automatic group, check that the selected rule matches only the products whose reviews you want to share.

# Choosing the right group type

Use a **static group** when:

* You want to select products manually.
* The products do not share a reliable naming, collection, or tagging pattern.
* You need precise control over which products share reviews.
* You are grouping a small number of products or a temporary set of products.

Use an **automatic group** when:

* Products share a common name pattern.
* Related products are organized in the same collection.
* You already use Shopify tags to organize products.
* You want the group to follow changes in your Shopify catalog automatically.

# Best practices

## Use product groups for genuinely related products

Only group products when customers would reasonably expect them to share reviews. Good examples include different colors of the same product, updated versions, and products with the same core design.

Avoid grouping unrelated products just to increase their review count. Reviews should remain relevant and useful to shoppers.

## Keep your product organization consistent

Automatic groups work best when your product names, collections, or tags are maintained consistently in Shopify.

Before creating an automatic group, check that:

* Product names use the same naming pattern.
* The correct products are in the selected collection.
* The selected tag is applied only to the products you want to include.

## Review your groups regularly

When your catalog changes, review your product groups to make sure they still contain the right products. This is particularly important if you rename products, change collections, or update product tags.

# Frequently Asked Questions

###### What are product groups used for?

Product groups let you share reviews between related products. This helps shoppers see more social proof and prevents each product page from having to build its review history independently.

###### Should I use a static or automatic group?

Use a static group when you want to choose products manually. Use an automatic group when products can be selected reliably by their name, collection, or tag.

###### Can I change a static group after creating it?

Yes. After creating a static group, you can add products, remove products, rename the group, or delete the group from the group management page.

###### What happens if I delete a product group?

Deleting a product group only removes the grouping relationship. It does not delete the products from Shopify or delete their reviews.

###### What happens when products change in an automatic group?

Automatic groups use the rule you configured to select products. If you rename products, move them between collections, or add or remove the relevant tag, the products that match the rule may change.

###### Can I use the same product in multiple groups?

For the most predictable results, organize each product in the group that best represents its relationship with the other products. Avoid creating overlapping groups unless you have confirmed that the resulting review display matches your expectations.
