Reviews Plugin: Email Requests & Reminders
Froonze Reviews doesn't rely on customers remembering to leave a review on their own. After a customer's order is fulfilled, the plugin automatically emails them asking for a review and follows up with reminders if they don't respond. This article covers how that request flow works, where to track it, how to control who receives it, and how to customize the emails themselves.
Tracking review requests
Every order eligible for a review request appears in one place, so you can see exactly what's been sent and what hasn't.
- Open the app's Reviews ➜ Requests tab.
- This page lists every purchased item alongside the order it belongs to, the customer, price, and the current status of that request.
Controlling when requests go out
Timing is configured from Reviews ➜ Settings ➜ Schedule and reminders.
Automatic requests
- Domestic orders: toggle whether domestic orders get requests at all, how many days after fulfillment the first request is sent, and how many days after that a follow-up/reminder goes out.
- International orders: the same two settings as domestic orders, configured separately for international orders, so you can allow more time for delivery before the request goes out.
- Delivery-based request: optionally send requests only once an order is marked as delivered, instead of counting days from fulfillment.
- You can also customize the exact time of day requests are sent, and the timezone used for that schedule.
Limits and priority
For orders with multiple line items, you can cap how many products from a single order get a review request, so a customer with a 10-item order doesn't get 10 separate requests.
- Send a review request for at most: the maximum number of products per order that will receive a request.
- Prioritize requests based on: when an order has more eligible products than that limit, this decides which ones get picked: Most expensive, Least expensive, Random, or Least reviews (products with fewer existing reviews get priority).
Automatic reminders
If a customer doesn't leave a review after the first request, Froonze can follow up automatically. Turn on Send automatic reminders and set how many reminders should go out per order.
Respecting customer consent
Review requests are marketing-adjacent emails, so Froonze gives you controls to keep them compliant with your customers' marketing preferences. These live under Reviews ➜ Settings ➜ Campaigns and blocklists.
Campaigns
By default, Froonze only sends review requests to customers who've agreed to receive marketing from your store. If you want to send requests to everyone regardless of marketing opt-in status, you can enable Send review requests to all customers, even if they have opted out of Shopify marketing emails.
Blocklists
- Email blocklist: exclude specific email addresses from receiving review requests. Supports wildcard matching, e.g.
*@hotmail.comorno-reply@*. - Tag blocklist: exclude requests for any customer, product, or order carrying a specific Shopify tag. Tags are created and applied from Shopify admin, not from Froonze.
Customizing the request emails
The actual content of review request emails is managed from Reviews ➜ Email templates.
Each row in this table is a template tied to a specific point in the request sequence (First request or Second reminder) and a specific language. A template can be Active or left as a Draft until you're ready to turn it on.
- Click Create template, or Edit an existing one, to open the template editor.
- From the dropdown menu next to Edit, you can also Activate, Send test email, Duplicate, or Delete a template.
Editing a template
Template type
- Email reminders: which stage of the sequence this template applies to (e.g. Initial request).
- Send to customers using this language: which language this template is used for. Selecting "Anyone without a personalized language template" makes it the fallback for languages that don't have their own template.
Content
- Template name: internal name, not shown to customers.
- Subject and Preview text: support merge tags like
{{ shop_name }}and{{ order_name }}. - Body: a rich text editor (bold, italic, underline, text color, alignment, lists, links, emoji/symbols) where you write the actual message. Common merge tags include
{{ first_name }},{{ shop_name }},{{ n_days_ago }}, and{{ order_name }}.
The live preview on the right updates as you edit, showing exactly how the email will render.
Review block
- Review request button type: how customers see the rating option (e.g. Stars, Buttons).
- Stars color, Image size, and Image dimension: controls the look of the product image and rating prompt shown per product.
Email layout
- Email max width, Email background color, Content background, and Links color control overall styling of the email.
- Unsubscribe link text customizes the wording of the unsubscribe link shown at the bottom of the email.
Multi-product
For orders with more than one qualifying product, choose whether to:
- Send a separate email for each qualified product, or
- Send a single email with all qualified products listed together.
Troubleshooting
A customer says they never received a review request.
- Check Reviews ➜ Requests to confirm the order appears and review its status.
- Confirm the customer's email isn't on the email or tag blocklist.
- Confirm the customer has consented to marketing emails, unless Send review requests to all customers is enabled.
- Check the Schedule and reminders settings as the request may simply not be due yet, based on the configured delay after fulfillment (or delivery, if that option is enabled).
I edited a template, but customers are still getting the old version.
Confirm the template you edited is set to Active. Draft templates are saved but not sent. If you have multiple templates for the same request stage in different languages, confirm the customer's language matches the template you edited, or that your edited template is the fallback for languages without their own template.
